My Vision

Vision for the Future We stand at a pivotal moment—one that demands both bold imagination and practical action. My vision for the future is built on three fundamental pillars: inclusive opportunity, sustainable progress, and empowered communities. Building Bridges, Not Barriers I envision a future where access to opportunity isn't determined by zip code, background, or circumstance. This means investing in education and workforce development that meets people where they are, creating pathways from marginalized communities into emerging industries, and ensuring that technological advancement lifts everyone, not just a privileged few. We must dismantle the structural barriers that have historically excluded voices from our decision-making processes and actively create spaces where diverse perspectives shape our collective future. Sustainability as Foundation, Not Afterthought Our children and grandchildren deserve to inherit a thriving planet. My vision prioritizes environmental stewardship in every policy decision—from transportation and energy to housing and economic development. This isn't about choosing between environmental protection and economic growth; it's about recognizing that long-term prosperity depends on sustainable practices. We can create green jobs, revitalize communities through climate-resilient infrastructure, and position ourselves as leaders in the clean energy economy. Empowering Communities to Lead Real change doesn't come from top-down mandates—it emerges when communities have the resources, autonomy, and support to solve their own challenges. I envision a future where local voices drive decision-making, where government serves as an enabler rather than an obstacle, and where collaboration across sectors creates innovative solutions to our most pressing problems. This means investing in community-led initiatives, supporting small businesses and social enterprises, and building systems of accountability that keep power rooted in the people. Moving Forward Together The challenges ahead are significant—economic inequality, climate crisis, healthcare access, educational disparities—but they are not insurmountable. With courage, creativity, and collective will, we can build a future that honors our shared humanity and creates genuine opportunity for all. This vision requires all of us: working together across differences, staying committed through setbacks, and holding fast to the belief that a better future is not just possible—it's within our reach.

Maya Chen is a dedicated public servant and community advocate with over a decade of experience bridging technology, education, and social impact. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Maya learned early the importance of community engagement from her parents, both educators who devoted their careers to serving underrepresented students. After earning her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington and a Master's in Public Administration from Cornell, Maya began her career as a software engineer at a Seattle-based tech company. However, her passion for community service soon led her to pivot toward nonprofit work, where she could combine her technical expertise with her commitment to social equity. For the past eight years, Maya has served as Executive Director of TechBridge Northwest, a nonprofit she helped grow from a small volunteer initiative into a regional organization serving over 3,000 individuals annually. Under her leadership, TechBridge has launched digital literacy programs in 15 underserved communities, established job training partnerships with major employers, and created pathways for formerly incarcerated individuals to enter the tech sector.
